I wonder, what would remain of a day without camera?
The inside memories…
…are not enough for a photographer. He has to express the memories to come…
…yet the inside memories have a transcendent quality…even if they were never photographed…
To me it is a way of communication between oneself as an informed subject and the world, a kind of contemplation in the first place, and then, viewing the images later, another quality of memories in the second place.
I remember Avedon qaying : ‘All photos are accurate. None of them is the truth’. So what about our memories, based on photos?
The memories we get from photos, are like cues. For some, they confirm an inner estate of meaning, to run in further circles of old beliefs , for others they might bring new thoughts, even if it was each the same photo, propelling the inner process of self-development.
It seems a lot to have in common with the human longing for something to behold in general, but while the photos stay the same, the viewer might change his inner truth.
More memories in your head? 😉
Daily. I would call those ‘traumas’ or ‘fears’ or…whatever makes me make pictures. Let’s summarize it by saying it’s simple ‘astonishment’. And it really doesn’t stop…
Fears? So you don’t spend any day without a camera? Have you tried? 🙂
I confess: it’s my fourth X100…. not one day without it. A real addict.
There are worse addictions. 🙂 Personally I stopped “photographing” a long time ago. a) I realized I had better memories when I was not taking pictures… b) Carrying a good camera around was… too much bulk. c) Now I carry my Iphone around all the time. It has limitations for some pictures, but it’s practical. And it fits in my pocket.
