Excellent series. I like your way of capturing the peoples expressions.
It’s my only talent, according to the opinion of real artists in residence of the catholic art-crew….
Oh, that sounds a bit harsh. What have you got to do with real artists … 😉
Well, let’s say I’m a little bit jealous the way their networks can sell products of undersized quality. Regarding the spiritual dimension of these Belgian, Brussels-based networks, I should be glad I’m not (and never will be) part of it. Still it’s a pity that those self-declared intellectual people mislead most of young Belgian photographers… it’s frustrating me to notice the way youngster would sell their souls in order to get an illusion of future succes…
If so, I’m glad to be a hobbyist … The preassure of getting into networks is close to zero.
Please don’t doubt about your talent. That’s absolutely not necessary! I do like your way of seeing subjects. It’s an inspiration.
Well, I don’t really doubt about my talents. It’s just (the teacher is speaking now) frustrating to see how young honest people are totally and ‘gesinnt’ fooled by art-teachers, whose greatest talent seems to be part of a strangling network. I recently became aware that nor talent neither honesty have anything to do with the position of an artist. This is hard to believe for someone who’s really creazy about making pictures…but for now, I think that”s really a correct analysis. Please stay an hobbyist…
A very productive half hour!
As an American, I’m not sure what “networks” you’re referring to but if it’s anything like the academic art establishment here in the states, I couldn’t agree more.
The word ‘establishment’ (we use it in dutch too) seems rather innocent and not so malicious. It refers in my opinion to the sixties, when young angry people tried to irritate it. The ‘networks’ I’m thinking of, assemble spiritually layered, anonymous people, in charge of art business, ‘science’ and education. They decide what’s precious and what’s crap, who is to be praised and who is to be dumped. It’s a very destructive bunch of people whose names are hard to find on the internet. I had the opportunity to touch their worlds; it’s scary to notice it’s not only the economic part of it that seems to be important. I was especially disappointed discovering that the work of art, the talent of the artist had no importance at all. Art scientists, teachers and artists themselves made it clear to me. Scary also is the fact that their influence in art schools is abused in order to seduce art students from abroad to join them…(good for the reputation of the school and the retirement fee of some ‘teachers’)
I know, this sounds bitter but…
I’m happy the be a simple and diehard photographer…
Just walking around… the way Baudelaire and Gérard de Nerval did.
